Sea of Galilee Boat Ride
After touring the boat museum where we saw a display of an ancient fishing boat from Jesus’ time that has been recently discovered, we went on a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. All around us we could see the view of the hills and mountains that Jesus must have see when he so often sailed these waters. This is where Jesus walked on the water and where Peter attempted to do so. On this shore was where after his resurrection Jesus told the disciples to haul In their nets and they caught 153 fish. This was symbolic because 153 when associated with Hebrew letters translate into”I am God”.  It was an amazing experience to sing worship songs together while on the boat.

It is believed that this was the place where Caiaphas the High Priest of Israel resided. A church is now on this spot. It was here that Jesus was tried by the Sanhedrin and where Peter denied Jesus. We were able to enter the pit where it is believed that Jesus was held. And the steps that Jesus must have descended down to the city to be tried again are still visible. Extremely moving. Wailing Wall

Western (wailing) wall This is the retaining wall of the huge platform where both Solomon and Herod built their temples.  Only a portion of this wall was preserved by the Romans when they destroyed the city in 70AD. This is a most holy spot for the Jewish people because it is the closest location to the holy of holies. They gather at this spot to pray, write prayers on little pieces of paper and stick them in the cracks of the wall.  They have their prayer books in which they recite specific prayers for specific times of the day and specific days. When they pray they sway back and forth. This is to show God that they are alive, human and not a statue so God will listen to their prayer. In times past they would gather there to wail the loss of the holy city and the destruction of the temple. Security now is very tight in this place and everyone needs to be scanned before they can enter the area. Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays they have bar mitzvah and the entire fam...

Nazereth

This is the town where Jesus spent his childhood with Joseph and Mary. It now consists of many churches that have been built over the ages to commemorate such areas as the visit of the angel Gabriel or the workshop of Joseph. There was a recently built “Nazareth village”, much like a pioneer village which had sheep and shepherds and weavers and carpenters etc all dressed like they would in the time of Jesus. It really gave us a good idea of what it must have been like The type of sheepfold in Jesus time Inside the carpenter's shop that must have looked a lot like that of Joseph wooden carpenter tools.
